VDSL (very-high-data-rate digital subscriber line) is one of the four DSL technologies (that also include ADSL, HDSL and SDSL). The Telco Systems technology delivers VDSL broadband service on the same telephone lines that carry Plain Old Telephone Service (POTS), digital telephone, and ISDN traffic.
VDSL is designed to transmit data to subscribers at the rate of up to 52 Mbps and to receive data from subscribers at the rate of up to 16 Mbps over a single twisted copper pair. The distance is usually limited to 1400 meters (about 4,500 feet), but in some cases a distance of 1800 meters can be reached. Transmitted data is referred to as downstream, and received data is referred to as upstream. |
